PARTNERSHIP FOR ACCOUNTABILITY ON IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY OF INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Our Focal Areas

It is obvious that this work cannot be carried out for all public funded projects in Ghana. PARTNERSHIP for ACCOUNTABILITY on IMPACT & SUSTAINABILITY intends to focus on infrastructure projects in the two areas of Transport and Agriculture.

Transport Infrastructure

Transport Infrastructure (Roads, Bridges, Terminals, Ports, etc.), especially road networks serve as the arteries and veins of an economy being the conduits through which vital resources are carried (mobility, distribution, mobilization, and aggregation) across a nation and beyond. A good, efficient, and reliable network of transport infrastructure is very important as it impacts positively all aspects of a nation’s economy.

Agriculture Infrastructure

In the case of Agriculture Infrastructure (Dams/Irrigation Schemes, Block Mechanization, Storage/Processing Facilities, Fishing Harbours, Farm Roads, Markets, etc.), they in addition to positively impacting the economy, provide livelihood to the majority of the rural population in a typical developing country like Ghana. Agriculture Infrastructure do not simply facilitate production of agricultural good but also enable off-season availability and price stabilization of otherwise seasonal crops.

A large segment of the population of every developing country, Ghana included, is dependent on Transport and Agriculture sectors for their livelihood.
Strategic linkages between Transport Infrastructure and Agriculture Infrastructure yields tremendous benefits for any typical developing country in terms of improved livelihood for a large segment of the population and also contributes to GDP.

Sustainable, Effective, Integrated, and Efficient Transport Infrastructure and Agriculture Infrastructure in Ghana will make significant contribution to GDP and also improve livelihood and lives of a large segment of the population. Additionally, in Ghana, women dominate the agriculture Value Chain; from production, through processing/storage, to distribution, and right down to the final sales point at the markets. It means that a lot of women stand to gain from good synergy between the two sectors.

A targeted approach will be adopted by selecting a number of projects and programs (within the Transport and Agriculture sectors) across the different Tender Committee levels (Central, Ministerial, Regional, and Metropolitan/District) within the two sectors as a sample of interest over a period of time.

Specific projects/programs of national and public interest outside the two sectors could also be targeted, especially on request by interested parties. Also, non-infrastructure projects with specific objectives would also be of interest, especially upon request.
